Empty Lungs are a Rock/Punk quartet based in Belfast. They played their first show in May 2011 since then they have self- released a 3 track single, 6 track EP and 3 music videos. Their explosive live shows have seen them take to the road all over Europe and led to them sharing the stage with bands like ALKALINE TRIO, JAPANDROIDS, THE SUBWAYS, DEAD TO ME, LEMURIA, CHEAP GIRLS, GENERAL FIASCO, FRANZ NICOLAY (the holdsteady), BEANS ON TOAST, BANGERS, NOMEANSNO. In  2013 they released an ep entitled ‘Stand Up’ (self-released/Quarantine Collective) and toured Ireland, UK and Europe building up a following on the underground circuit. They gained airplay and support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Ulster and RTE’s XFM.
The new Double A side single ”From Russia With A Lack of Love/Cabin Fever” is to be released on 2nd April 2014 on 7” Vinyl via Jobsworth Records and also as a digital download. It was engineered and mixed by Rocky 0′ Reilly (And So I Watch You From Afar, Wheatus, Math The Band, Slomatics) at Start Together Studios, Belfast, Produced by Empty Lungs and Rocky O’ Reilly and mastered by Enormous Door Studios in Austin,
These 2 new tracks show a clear progression from previous releases, more melody and more energy in equal measures. Two driving, catchy rock songs with a message.
A message that complacency is the enemy, that the only way is forward, that we should all strive for something better and refuse to settle. These sentiments are evident in the bands attitude and their work ethic. Currently recording demo’s for their debut full length this is a band with a lot more to give.
”…The boys are in world beating form, they belt out the likes of ”Identity Lost” and ”Nothing Left To Lose” with a belief and passion that marks them out as one of the best unsigned acts on the island right now.” – Edwin McFee, Hot Press Magazine – ”..Marrying Springsteen angst to punk snarl like a heavier Gaslight Anthem… an excellent release that really raises the anticipation for a full album. Lee Gorman, AU Magazine. ”Empty Lungs have found a way of capturing the eruption of hormones that usually only come with watching a band play live. It’s a rare thing and there’s few who can do this, let alone do this well. Hot Water Music always seemed to pull it off, and so do these guys.” Ian Critchley, The Backroom ”’There’s a refreshing lack of pretense the band managing to rise above the sometimes ‘whiney’ nature of this genre by steadfastly refusing to sing in an American accent… Some of the local buzz bands could definitely learn from Empty Lungs’ example.’’ – Shane Horan, BBC ATL. ‘’ This Belfast trio’s debut triple-tracker will be catnip for anyone who worships at the altar of Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker and their Eighties and Nineties US punk brethren…It’s all remarkably accomplished for a first release, but then Kev Jones and Ryan Holmes have paid their dues in various bands over the last five to 10 years – and it shows…this is an impressive opening salvo.’’ – Chris Jones, AU Magazine. ‘’…I can now heartily recommend the band as a potent power trio with a rapidly expanding set of catchy yet crunchy tuneage. Empty Lungs Rock…’’ -David Roy, The Irish News. ‘’ Identity Lost” is a powerful piece of alternate-punk that exhibits an intelligence and musical virtuosity beyond what you would expect from the genre. Definitely a band worth watching …’’ metaphoricalboat.blogspot.com ‘’The band’s sound carries echoes of 80’s style American hardcore with traces of The Replacements and Hüsker Dü very evident in their songs. However, they thankfully don’t have any glossy 80’s veneer running over them, but instead have an aggressive and a lyrical realism and sincerity that carries through the vocals and to the whole feel of the band as well. You know they mean every last note they play; the drums hit hard and tight and the basslines are syrup thick and just as sweet. By the time they’re on their second track, Stand Up, I want to be down the front singing along with them. Everyone in the room are seemingly aware that they are seeing one of the best new acts around as people turn to me and ask again for the band’s name, just so they remember it to look them up later. I suggest you do the same; they could be your new favourite band.’’ -Allgonepop.com
